HOW IT STARTED
“I was brought into Young Life (YL) by a friend who knew I was about to experience motherhood on my own and that I would have a story to tell. It was kismet. After volunteering for many years, I transitioned into a fundraising role. I started Art in The Garden in 2019 as a way to give back to YL in my own way in my own community. In those 4 years I’ve been able to raise nearly $100,000 for YL; a non-denominational ministry, which helps staff members on campus at St. Philips build relationships, provide mentorships, and develop leadership skills with HS & College age students. This has and will remain a part of my life’s work to give opportunity those who wouldn’t have it otherwise, because the same was done for me.”
- Andrea Wollenzin, Art in The Garden Founder
YLSA East is a non-denominational ministry that reaches out to adolescents (high school to college aged) living in poverty to build relationships, provide mentorships, and develop leadership skills. They provide meals; provide a safe environment to build meaningful community and teach life skills through training. Staff members and volunteers aim to lead with a servant's heart and set an example for their teens.
Last year, YLSA East served 500+ individuals out of their home site, “The Porch.” With three staff members and two volunteers, and they operate on an annual budget of $150,000. San Antonio Young Life East relies on the generosity and support of individuals and organizations like yours.
